Education System

The education system in the UK is divided into five main parts, Private education, University Preparation, Undergraduate Programmes and Postgraduate Degree Programmes, International Student.

The private sector

Bright World also works with many schools and colleges in the UK which are privately funded institutions. Private colleges are generally more expensive than state colleges for overseas students, have smaller class sizes and have smaller student numbers - some with just 150 students in one school.

University preparation (AS/A level) - Ages 16-17

Once a student reaches the age of 16 they can start a 2 year programme which leads to Advanced level examinations. Students specialize in 3 or 4 subjects that are usually relevant to the degree subject they wish to follow at university. At the end of year 1 student take AS level examinations.

Undergraduate degree programmes (bachelors degree) - Age18+

A British bachelors degree normally takes three years to complete and most are awarded at honors level. State colleges offer some 2 year vocational diplomas that grant exemption from the first and sometimes second year of a degree program.

Postgraduate degree programmes (masters degree) - Ages 21+

Postgraduate courses in the UK are very Good . This means that the courses are usually much shorter than in other countries. A Master's degree typically takes 12-18 months to complete, for example an MA - Master of Arts and an MEng - Master of Engineering. An MBA (Master of Business Administration) is a high profile Masters course which can take 2 years.etc

International students

To study in the UK, international students whose English is not their first language must provide evidence of English language proficiency. Most universities in the UK prefer the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) certificate. IELTS 5.5 Or 6.0 is the usual level required for undergraduate study and IELTS 6.0 Or 6.5 for postgraduate. In addition to proving English proficiency, international students must also check that their qualifications meet the school's entry requirements.
